Frequently Asked Questions
What should we wear?
What should I (or) we wear is my number one question. I always recommend that you wear something that flatters your body type, something that makes you feel good. I encourage people not to be too trendy and to stick with classic and timeless clothing. Avoid strong patterns or t-shirts with logos but bring in plenty of textures. Gone are the days of blue jeans and white button up shirts (thank goodness!) Try not to match. Let everyone’s individual style shine through.
What color should we wear?
I recommend that you pick 3-4 colors that complement each other. Of those 3-4 colors, two will be a base neutral like blue, brown or black. Most people will have one of these colors in their closet. If you are having problems figuring out colors, go to your local home improvement store and visit the paint section. There are all types of complementing swatches that show you what colors go best together.
Will I see every image that you took in my gallery?
No. I take lots of pictures to make sure I have the best angles, to make sure I have nailed the focus and that you look your best. I may take 4-5 shots of the same pose. I will narrow it down so it’s not so over whelming and repetitive.
How long will it take to get my prints?
Once you place your order, it takes about 5 business days to receive your prints if you plan for studio pick up. If you want them mailed to your home, it might take an additional 2-3 business days.
Studio or outdoor?
I always encourage my families to get outside when possible. I love outdoor pictures. That, of course, can be trickier with the weather. Outdoor sessions are generally done in the evenings when the light is less harsh. If there is inclement weather, we will reschedule your session.
If you choose a studio session, I have a few neutral backdrops to pick from. My studio is located in my home and it is downstairs. If you can’t use the stairs, we can make arrangements for another location. My studio is a small space and is best suited for newborns and small children as well as individual headshots.
What is the best time of the year for portraits?
Every season is great including winter. If you are unsure what would work best for you and your family, let’s talk about it so we can determine what would work best for you.
How many outfit changes can I have?
For my senior students, I allow unlimited clothes changes. All of my senior sessions take place outdoors, so I encourage students to wear clothing that they can change quickly in their car. Girls should wear a cami under their shirt and possibly shorts under their skirts so they don’t feel exposed.
Can we bring our pet?
I love pets! YES! Just let me know in advance so I can plan on shots that will work well for you and your four-legged friend.
Any advice on making this fun for my small child?
Make sure they are fed! Some parents are afraid to feed their kids so they don’t mess up their clothes, but honestly, if your child is hungry at all, the session is not going to go well. Talk them up about pictures and that it will be fun. When it’s time for pictures, don’t focus on the camera. If you plan to have them wear clothes that they don’t normally wear such as shoes, hats, head bands or even tighter outfits, start having them wear these items long before the session. It will help them to feel more at ease. And as always, just be happy. Kids read your cues and if you are upset, discouraged or frustrated, they will shut down.
Tip: My camera will see everything. Make sure your clothes aren’t wrinkled or stained and that you don’t have any lint or animal hair on your clothing. Again, my camera sees everything!
